The writers do a bunch of self congratulating about not retconning the situation with Hatred, and still do as recently as the Go Team Venture art book. So I think it's less 'they regret it' and more 'they think they're super good at the whole writing thing for tackling difficult issues' still.

I'd also argue it's absolutely mentioned in season 6, when Hunter tries to reassign Hatred and Hatred quits instead of desk jockeying, because the only other person in need of a bodyguard was a 9 year old boy genius and Hunter didn't want to assign Hatred to that job for the obvious reasons.

The King Gorilla is a rapist jokes kept coming up until he was killed off, so I wouldn't put money on it being dropped completely.
