Not to quibble, but isn't being marketable the point?

I mean, that's what models are supposed to do, right? Help sell clothes and other merchandise.

exactly. (the judges have changed from season to season too, so it's not like the same people did the same thing.) but the marketing is about what's trendy so of course they're going to pick trendy looking models.

The judges is definitely a thing. Tyra was always promoting "weirder" contestants, right from season 1 (not to say they won often, but she did put them on the show). Earlier season judges such as Janice Dickerson were very much against things like plus-size models whereas later judges weren't (probably specifically chosen because they were more open to it).

They are glorified clothes hangers.

yes, but antm markets itself as celebrating all kinds of beauty when they would drop these people at the blink of an eye if it became unfashionable. they are using the current trends to make themselves look caring and inclusive, it's a deliberate strategy and literally all over the show

Danielle in Season 5? She wanted to keep her gap, then they explained to her that her gap was dominating her face, so they agreed on lessening the gap but not closing it completely. Both sides seemed happy and she won that season.

then it should be obvious to you im not talking about her......

Who do you mean then?

Didn't that show also pressure one of the contestants to get a tooth gap by shaving her existing teeth? That was especially icky since it's so permanent.
