You view hate as a very strong word, and I'm sure you have reasons for it, but lord knows that I have used 'hate' when I mean 'dislike' before, either in a comically exaggarated context or just because I felt I wanted to make an impact. Perhaps one can argue that I am to blame for using a word that does not mean what I mean, perhaps we can say that one should make a bigger attempt at seeing the reasoning behind each individual's use of the word, but I wouldn't say that hating someone because they say they hate fictional characters when we often cannot discern the reasoning behind the use of the words is a good thing to do.

Or maybe I'm just taking words on the internet too seriously and should be relaxing a little.

I cannot say anything about the quality of the English translation, and I haven't even got around to reading the novels in German myself. My sister has them, though, and loves them and praises their originality. And I trust her taste, so...

Yes, in fact it is. It's from the manga. The dog belongs to Yankumi's family and follows Shin around. It had long, deep speeches and Shin of course does not speak dog. A bit later on he begins to understand the dog, though.

Really? I know they weren't crazy about him when the game first came out, but there seem to be a large amount of Genesis/Sephiroth fics, or just general all-SOLDIER orgy fics. So they don't seem to have too much of a problem shipping him...
