112) He's my favorite character, too. And damn that's a pretty picture of him. Ah well, there's always fanfic.

138) He's my fourth favorite out of the five -- behind Jack, Owen and Tosh. So naturally, the two lackeys I liked got killed, such is my luck. I really hope he gets a bit more character development this next season, and, just to be contrary, preferably in a direction that absolutely crushes the fanon version of him.

153) I've found nothing in the funny pages worth reading in the last few years. They've all run out of ideas years ago and are just rehashing the same crap over and over and over again. And my local paper would rather run old Peanut's from the 70's than actually put someone new up. I stick to web comics.

161) I constantly meta what I watch, but that's a huge part of the fun for me. Every canon WTF moment is an opportunity for me to get creative. Nothing excites my imagination more than a great core idea executed poorly. The main thing that spurs me to write fanfic is filling in plotholes and finding motivations to make the characters actions make sense.

162) Bwah? I hope you aren't suggesting that Yaoi OTPers don't believe in True Love, cuz that's what it kind of sounds like.

Being a die-hard Ianto fan, and a Jack/Ianto shipper, I'd like to say, at least in the defense of those in my particular little rowboat, that my Ianto =/= "fanon" Ianto. I think Jack/Ianto shippers get similar heat to Sylar/Mohinder shippers, ie everyone thinks we're crazy. XD Not all of us are. The majority, however, makes us all look bad. =/

Maybe with some luck your Ianto will become definitively canon!

(I ship the pairing, but only as dub-con, which puts me way in the minority, but there is so much fanon Ianto out there, I don't bother to read fic for that pairing anymore.)

Fandom tends to ruin my favorite pairings so much that I can't read most if any fic for them. So many of my favorite pairings are viewed in so many different lights that I can't agree with a lot of what's out there. So I live in my own little fandom world, for the most part. :P

I enjoy reading and writing fic too much to give it up, but I do get sated on a particular dynamic. I'm done with ever-so-mildly kinky pwps with Jack and Ianto in monogamous forever bliss.

The fact that Jack doesn't do monogamy, and Ianto would like a one on one relationship with him is a HUGE reason I like the pairing so much. I like dysfunctional pairings. It certainly doesn't necessarily mean I think a certain pairing is healthy, or that I think unhealthy relationships are okay or whatever... It simply means that, in fiction, I find dysfunctional relationships more fun to read and write, as a general rule.

I'm with you! Fandom is full of canon possible healthy relationships, it really annoys me that when we finally get a severely problematic canon relationship it people insist on turning it into bland generic schmaltz. It's ironic considering how much fandom does love it's drama that so many work so hard to suck every last bit of danger and uncertainty out their ships.

I'm sorry if that's what it sounded like! I was angry at myself, not at "yaoi" itself. I was angry at how I cared more about sexuality rather than about their actual relationship. I realized I still love most of my old yaoi favorites and that I can ship them along Simon/Nia. I'll now appreciate characters and not sexes and you can be damn sure that I will still ship yaoi couples for a very long time.

Most of my friends ship across the board, yaoi, yuri and het -- and even genderswitch, so you have plenty of company in shipping for the characters rather than for their genders. To me that seems the natural way to choose a ship.
