I think a lot of the misinterpretation actually comes from people who didn’t read it :/ The characters in Fight Club are violent extremists in the text, Holden is a scared kid who runs away, fantasizes about protecting children, and ends up returning to his life.

The better test imo would be wary of people who claim to relate to Holden but clearly don’t know what the book is about.
