i've never understood the idea in this fandom that if it was on HBO it means that there'd be either: canon incest or gay sex, because from what i've seen of this show the only thing it being HBO would guarantee is more explicit het sex.

Same. This secret confuses me for that reason (also I don't get the appeal of parent/child pairings, but that's a personal preference).

Doesn't Game of Thrones have canon incest and non-con and graphic torture? I mean, I'm not absolutely sure what the secret poster wants, but pretty sure this is the scene where John Winchester is possessed by the Yellow-Eyed Demon, so it would be rape by proxy and technically incest and as such, a real mindfuck for both characters, which does sort seem up HBO's alley.

But GoT is an adaptation, it's not like they had a choice there, it was on the books. Boardwalk Empire, an original HBO show, had a mom and her adult son having sex but it was depicted as something horrifying.

ayrt

Was there something in my comment about the scenario I spelled out that implied it wasn't supposed to be horrifying? Because I'm pretty sure having the demon who killed Dean's mother (and John's wife) and has been after Dean's brother (and John's son) rape Dean using John's body would be pretty damn horrifying for them both (and Sam, too, actually).

And from my understanding of Game of Thrones, they have changed things from the books, so I think they do have choices. And even if they go with exactly as written, they don't have to show anything they don't want to, right? It could be implied or happen off-screen and be referred to.

There have been more than a few shows on HBO with gay sex, so I wouldn't think that would be out of the question if Supernatural was on there.

Incest, though...Game of Thrones is the only series I can think of on that network that has canon incest. Maybe they would've gone a darker and sexual route with John Winchester's abusiveness towards his kids but that's the only incest I can see happening with him with this show.

sa.

it's not that HBO doesn't do gay-sex, it's that i can't see spn ever having gone there if it was higher rated, the show is very Hetro and outside of slash-goggles it's never verged on being gay, especially not in the early seasons.

I think in this specific case, the OP means that the extremely strong incestual rape overtones of this scene would have been explicit if it was on HBO, and in this one specific case I agree.
