200%. So much of this is plain old heteronormativity ('littler guy=girl=bottom') And it isn't necessarily more realistic, couples do exist who switch or don't follow the crowd.

Yep, 100% this.

I also find, in my experience, that stories and characterization are more interesting in fics by people who mix things up from this kind of tired cliche. If someone's reading solely to get off on the "girl" in the relationship getting fucked, that's fine, I care about more than that, though, and have found not following the fanon tropes open up beautiful opportunities to explore characters and relationships through sex.
