There are a lot of books I remember loathing when I was forced to read them as a kid, but now that I have to teach them to kids I just... want the kids to understand why they're so interesting! I never actually read Catcher in the Rye in high school, so teaching it was my first time reading it and I didn't dislike Holden. It was super interesting to me to see which of my students really identified with him and which of them hated him. I don't know how to correct for that weird disconnect for students, either, except to be a better teacher. Sigh.
