How is this petty unless you don't like them for petty reasons?

There's nothing Hollywood loves more than awarding movies about stardom in some capacity. I think you're SOL there.

I don't want it to win because I think the story is trite and repeats sexist stereotypes that I'm personally not a fan of. Also, when movies that are about being stars win awards, I always feel like it is the industry giving itself pats on the back.

Which sexist stereotypes, in particular?

Older dude mentors and romances younger woman, but it is really all about him and she gives everything to him and he doesn't really give much back.

That's why I'm lukewarm to it. I like the music, but woman having her life dragged down by loser old man isn't entertaining.

Ugh. I hate plots like that.

I love Lady Gaga, and I've only heard great things about this from people who have seen it, especially in regards to the music. I haven't seen any of the other versions, but it seems like my kind of story. Looking forward to catching it on digital.

Don't really care if it wins awards or not, but Gaga's gown at the Golden Globes was breathtaking.

Bradley Cooper sucks but Lady Gaga is cool

that's my take, hope you liked it

I don't know much about Bradley Cooper. Did he do/say something problematic, or does his acting just generally annoy people?

(Anonymous) 2019-01-18 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea whether or not he's a bad person, I just find his face annoying

(Anonymous) 2019-01-18 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. I always thought he looked like a cheap knockoff of Ralph Fiennes.

haha good call. I always thought his face is set on smug++ no matter his facial expression. Just...constantly smug.

The only role I ever enjoyed him in was A-Team bc he was supposed to be smug in that.

I haven't seen it but a really good friend of mine who did see it and loves Gaga said her acting wasn't great.

(Anonymous) 2019-01-18 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I find this funny since she began her career trying to act in the Sopranos and on an MTV show.

It's, what, the third remake of this story? Fourth? I have heard good things about the version but I can't imagine it winning many awards

I don't think a movie that's been made 4 times with stars of the time should win awards over and over every a star is born wins awards I don't get why m we should be awarding the same film over and over, let other films shine . Also Lady gaga tries way to hard for all this and acts so shocked I find it disingenuous mostly plus I love Lady gaga as a singer but she is not that great a actress so I may sound pretty as well, I think Bradley thought his noms were sure bets that's why he directed this but I feel like doing the same thing over and over again doesn't show talent it shows lack of originality
