I'm one of those who just can't see anyone else but Suchet in the roll. Suchet basically is Poirot for me. But you aren't alone in liking Malcovitch's portrayal, I don't think.

I do think Suchet was the best Poirot but I also like Peter Ustinov's and Albert Finney's versions of Hercule (both of which are pretty different from Suchet's.)

It's weird seeing someone else in the role, for sure. It also makes a difference because it's Poirot not in his prime. He's a lonely old man who's largely been forgotten, which is really sad. :(

Yeah, I grew up with him in the role. He is Poirot for me. For years I didn't even realise it was all based on novels.

I hated this adaptation's take on Poirot so much. Everything was dark and everyone was an awful person with the shoehorning in of weird fetish heels and Catholic Priest Poirot that left a bad taste in my mouth. It was like a fanfic written by someone trying to gain social justice points for being utterly pro-immigration while titillating with the landlady's daughter's gratuitous scenes. Did not need to be 3 hours long. Did not need to leave out Hastings nor belittle Poirot in eyes of police and public.
