NS!1 - First of all, a lot of characters happen to be canon gay on tv shows. Second of all, most of the time when the writers aren't ballsy enough to blatantly state that a character is gay, they use subtext and let the viewers fill in the blanks. I'm not one of those people who wants every character in everything to be gay, but sometimes it's just fucking obvious, even if the creator doesn't hit you over the head with it.

TL!1 For some reason I love that cheesy-ass movie enough to own it on VHS, although I think half of the reason I liked it was for the whiney dude who slashes his wrists with vinyl (LOL).

111 Kenshin's scars don't even look like scars, they look painted on. FAIL

112 Don't look at me, I just like her character design. I'm not even a fan of that series and I've drawn fanart of her.

129 I'm a "historyfag," and I'm not touching that series.

111. Well, to be fair, it could be one of those fail!scars that pretty much heal back, only the pigmentation's all screwed up there afterward. My mom has a scar on her right hand shaped like a tiny purple heart - pretty epic, actually. I have a scar in pretty much the same place... a slightly lighter brown, kinda T-shaped mark. Faaaiil.

That said, yeah, if it can be mistaken for a birthmark or facepaint, it doesn't actually detract from the character's appearance anyway. So no, liking Kenshin's scar doesn't make you hardcore (not that liking the Joker or Comedian's scars do either, but ehn).

Come to think of it, I have a couple of scars like that, but they're from abrasions, not knive/blade wounds. But yeah, whatever, it's a cartoon.

My fail!scar's from an X-acto knife, but I think my mom's was a burn. Fascinating, I know.

Mine are on my left leg around the ankle and the knee. I got them from this one time that I thought it would be a good idea to get drunk and go on a bike ride at like 12 am down a hill on a major street. Well, the bike I was riding was built by one of my sister's friends, and he did a shitty job with the handbrakes, which kind of just fell off just as I was going downhill. So I had to stop the bike with my feet and ended up tearing up my leg pretty bad. But what made it scar over was my idiotic attempt to "sanitize the wound with alcohol" with the only alcohol available to me at the time -- PBR.

Yeah, not a moment I'm particularly proud of.

N!S. If a character's sexuality is not stated, then it's not stated. Whether or not he appears gay, he may or may not actually be so. And when the writers give that character a girlfriend, it's not because fandom thinks the character is gay.

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about rare cases where writers do everything but state a character is gay. The only real example I can think of right now is an anime, and that doesn't count.

Anyhow, I agree with you on the "oh they just gave the character a girlfriend" thing, though. And I also can't stand it when people assert someone is gay just because they think they make a good slash pairing or whatever.

They can get downright scary about the girlfriend, too. All the bashing and sometimes really offensive comments.

I wasn't aware. I'm not involved in many fandoms since I tend to get into kind of old or obscure things, and I'm only in one tv fandom that I can think of.

After Gundam 00, I was suspicious too. He was just too awesome a character to NOT kick the bucket eventually...

but I held hope. Macross =/= Gundam.

Macross = singing popstars in mechs. Literally. Oh, and who sometimes fire out speaker pods.

Gundam = HI WAR. HI DEATH. HI SINGING PEOPLE IN MECHS WHO AREN'T REALLY THE MAIN FOCUS OF THE SHOW.
