See, for me, Edgeworth and Maya drive 2 even more than 1, because Phoenix NEVER SHUTS UP about Edgeworth. Every conversation he and Franziska have is tinged with Edgeworth- but, yeah, it's his absence that's the important thing.

IMHO, the games (discounting AJ, which is about Phoenix and Kristoph) have three main storylines- Edgeworth, Kurain, and the Steel Samurai. But i'm getting tl;dr and I already wrote like a billion posts on it.

Ack, sorry for jumping in, but so much word to this, srsly. If the Fey family plot is the glue that holds the series together, then the development of Edgeworth's character and his relationship to Phoenix (however you want to interpret it) is its secondary overarching subplot, imo. It's one of the reasons why I can't always buy fanon that has Edgeworth as just disappearing out of canon after T&T - because it seems like so much of PW:1-3 is about getting him to a point where he can be involved in that world, with those people

Exactly. I think it's possible in the first two games to argue the toss as to which is more important, Phoenix and Edgeworth or the Fey family, but it all comes down to the Feys in the end. That's one of the reasons I didn't like AJ; they spent so much time building it up, and then Edgeworth was just gone, without so much as a cameo appearance.

Shit, I should just write an essay.
