yup.

that is when a clear change in reaction times happens. risks of strokes and heart attacks increase even more than before. best be safe for them and all other road users.

my type one diabetic fam get checked more often than abled drivers. better safe than deaths. if anything 75 is too high

Wow, my dad's about to turn 74, and I don't think of him as very old at all. But I guess he's outside the norm in terms of his good health and mental faculties.

Things can just change so suddenly and it is more likely to happen at that age.

I mean, my granddad still has a valid driving licence and a car in his name (taken away from him that my uncle uses) and he has dementia and can't even hold a conversation for longer than five minutes without getting lost but legally...legally he could drive. Not everyone has a family to take the keys away and keep an eye on them.

Yeah, I guess you're right, and I haven't really come to terms with how old my parents are getting. :\

He sounds like he'd pass the test easily then, so he probably has nothing to worry about even if they did start testing.

I would support re-testing all along anyway, lots of people regardless of age don't realize how bad their eyesight is getting and that kind of thing too.

It really depends on the individual! My dad was alert and absolutely still a good driver at the age of 74. He had to quit driving due to a sudden diagnosis of terminal cancer in his skull and the decline in coordination was quick. If not for THAT, he would've been a great driver had he lived. Quick reflexes and all. Whereas HIS father wasn't so quick behind the wheel once he hit the age range of 78-80 and both my dad & uncle had to force him to give up driving. :(

....that is exactly my point. it DOES depend on the individual. So let's teach each individual beyond a certain age to make sure they are safe. I mean, we test younger drivers in the way of insurance allowances.

75 is quite generous. I'd actually start at 60.

Damn! You can't even retire with benefits until 67 in my country. Kinda fucked up to say people have to work but shouldn't drive without a doctor's permission.

The number of accidents caused by younger drivers is actually much higher, so technically, you should start from the beginning and make every driver repeat some kind of test every year from the day they start driving.
