The thing is, in the mid-2000s, it was harder for creators to actually give us full on slash text. These days it isn't. Back then, subtext was all we could get most of the time (with a few exceptions). Now they can go full on, so only doing subtext is kind of queerbaiting.

Yes, I understand.

I still find feelings of excitement more enjoyable than feelings of frustration.

But... like... it's not like you can just flip a switch, is it? It kinda depends on what you're getting excited or frustrated about? Like, you get excited if the thing is good and frustrated if it's bad, right?

Yeah, never mind, I don't know how to express what I'm feeling and kind of regret posting in this thread to begin with.

I'm sorry, I hope that didn't come across as harsh!

I wish there was room for both options. More canon gay couples that get together after shippy subtext, but keep some that remain subtext until the end. I've always preferred subtext to canon couples no matter what gender the characters are because I find it more exciting. And I'm wlw. I don't like this narrative that all queer people want canon representation all the time because it's the Correct Progressive opinion for us to hold. Sometimes I like my entertainment as just entertainment that caters to my base personal cravings.

I wonder what would happen if more het (or gen/unspecified) relationships in canon were all subtext instead of eventually getting together. Maybe if there was more canon without any relationships at all or only subtexty suggestions of interest, the whole atmosphere would change and we wouldn't have to hope for More Representation.
