to be fair though overwatch is science fiction so the assumption doesn't make much sense for this particular person

It also set far into the future. So it has been like...300+ years since Jack was used as a nickname for John.

Jack is used as a nickname for John right now. But I wouldn't assume that someone called "Jack" was actually called "John", because it's an independent name too.

Yeah definitely sounds like it doesn’t make sense. I mean it still gets used but I wouldn't automatically assume today that someone called Jack their full name is John.
