CW for sexual assault/violence

I've been having nightmares that involve someone attempting to sexually assault me lately (something that occurred when I was 21). I've never really had dreams relating to it before, not sure why it's happening now. It's not the actual guy in these dreams, it's always someone different. One last night ended with me stabbing the guy in the throat with my keys (specifically my front door key for work). Idk. They're super-vivid right now. It sucks.

Added fun: I also get 'hypnopompic hallucinations' where during the wakeup process I'll see stuff in the room with me. It's ridiculously vivid and clear to the point I'll leap out of bed because there's a scorpion crawling up my bed or someone standing in my doorway. They diasppear in a few blinks but those few blinks are shit scary.

I didn't realize there was a name for that! It happens to me a lot and it's terrifying. Once there was some type of big cat in the room, and there've been a couple times where I've felt someone sit down on my bed although there's no one there. Maybe that doesn't count as a hallucination though if it involves a physical sensation?

Also, I see someone standing in the doorway just watching me all the time. It's happened at least twice a week for the 11.5 years I've lived here and never happened in the last house. It's always at night when I'm trying to fall asleep and a lot of the time I know for sure I'm completely awake when I see it so I guess it's probably not what you're describing. I actually started thinking it was a ghost even though I don't really believe in them. It freaks me out though. I've thought of doing research to see what happened on this property but I'm kind of afraid of what I might find.

(Ok, I realize this probably makes me sound like a crazy person.)

Ah, I'm sorry you suffer with this too! It's really frightening when it happens. It's such a weird sensation knowing you're awake and in your bedroom but there's very definitely something standing in front of you. The hallucinations can be tactile or auditory as well, so it's not out of the question that what you felt with the sitting on the bed was part of it as well. I woke my partner up once because I was convinced I'd heard and felt huge explosions outside our window.

There's also the reverse called hypnogogic hallucinations where you see these things as you're falling asleep, rather than waking up. You're not crazy! <3 It's just a weird little brain-glitch that some people have, though it apparently can be triggered or worsened by stress, anxiety etc. I hope your hallucinations ease up soon. They can be really stressful.

I'm not a medical expert and I'm not saying this is the case especially where you've been living there for a long time but make sure you rule out carbon monoxide poisoning.
