Do you also know why Polly's a nickname for Mary?

I'm not aware, offhand, of the whole sequence, no. 'Polly' comes from 'Molly' (it's not uncommon for b, p, and m to change into each other), but I'm not sure how 'Molly' came to be a nickname for 'Mary' (it sure isn't as easy as adding the -kin suffix)...
