It's mildly squicky to some people and toxic rpf fans seem particularly noxious in their bad behavior. I think those two things pretty much cover it.

Some sports fans are really terrible - aggressive, violent, and with a tendency to vandalize public property and get into fights. That's not really a good reason for shaming everyone who's interested in sports, though.

News to me. I haven't seen a great deal of evidence of hating sports fans on FS. We just had a figure skating secret this week that was well received.

But even if you were correct, that doesn't make it logical or a bad example.

Okay but this covers pretty much... everything in fandom? Almost everyone has something they find squicky, and there a toxic fans in literally EVERY fandom.

I mean I totally understand why some people don't like it/don't want to read it, etc, but the aggressive hate towards those that do seems so fucking over the top to me. And not the hate towards the crazy toxic 'drag the real people into this' fans, but the quiet 'locks my fic down on AO3 and understands this is fiction and not real' fans.
