In fandom and fanworks, it for the most part sure is.

it turns out that this is an extremely important qualifier that fundamentally changes the meaning of your statement!

I wasn't the ayrt above but the topic has obviously been fandom and fanworks ITT the whole time.

If A says "Trans stuff in fanworks and fandom is often fetishistic", and then B replies "That's because trans is a fetish", I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that B is making a more general comment expanding on the topic of conversation.

I wrote “trans is a fetish”. I meant the whole idea of being trans outside of fandom. They feishise the other sex thinking if they LARP hard enough they will become one.

Yeah, no. The whole "autogynephilia" thing is pseudoscientific nonsense that ignores both presented experience, and actual measured physiological arousal responses in both tested trans and cis people that contradicted his hypothesis. I mean, god, using the exact same criteria as Blanchard, Moser 2009 measured so-called "autogynephilic" responses in 93% of cis women included in the study! Not to mention the fact that his research never even bothered to look at trans men.

It's nothing but constant goalpost shifting by someone who refuses to confront their replication failures. Ray Blanchard's nonsense holds up exactly as well as Linus Pauling's vitamin C nonsense. In both cases, you have someone who from an objective perspective might be smart, but who refuses to address the constant experimental replication failures produced by others by simply redefining their hypothesis in an attempt to hold onto their theory. They're both smart morons.

....says the person using the word “cis”. Talk about pseudoscience! The brain does not have a gender. It is the same sex as your body.

We've been talking about fandom the whole time. Where were you?
