Re: Fandom pet peeves

This is an incredibly minor thing, but I've noticed it a couple of times lately and it does mildly annoy me: tagging the main pairing but NOT tagging the characters in that pairing on AO3 fic. What I mean is, tagging a story Ann/Bill in the relationships section, then having every other character in the story EXCEPT them tagged in the characters section. I know it only annoys me because I search primarily by character tags, and maybe most people search by ship tags instead, but I spent a good couple of minutes trying to figure out why a story I knew should exist for this character had vanished, before realising that you can't get it using just the character search.

IDK, it just feels like if those are your main characters for the story, you should tag them AS characters and not just as the relationship they're in?

But, yes, incredibly minor thing, I know.

Ohh, that gets me too. I kind of understand why they would think tagging the characters in the pairing would be redundant, but people like you and me who search by character tags get lost as hell.

I totally agree. In every fandom, I have a character preference, but not necessarily a ship preference for that character. And even if I have a ship preference, it's not absolute, so I like to check out other ships. Plus there's the gen fic with that character. I want to see it all when I go looking under a character tag.
