I absolutely agree with this. Plenty of places won't look at you without a university degree, despite the fact that most of the time it won't be relevant. Academic study is not for everyone and there's nothing wrong with that - we need to work more to people's strengths, not trying to make everyone walk the same path.

I've been seeing a trend away from that lately, though? I see a lot of places these days asking for either a degree or equivalent experience - basically they just want to see evidence that you have the discipline for the job. They don't care whether that evidence is that you've worked some other job for a few years or that you were able to graduate from college.
