After 15 years, all IPs should become public domain.

I think it should be creator's life. I don't think someone who is alive and worked hard to create something should not profit off that work.

That's fair, but if that's the case I'd say all derivative works are legal and can be profited off of. (Within reason. Stuff like fanfic, not the entire novel verbatim but with an extra sentence thrown in for good measure.)

This is how I feel. Copywright should end with the author/creator's death, IMHO.

Yeah. There's no guarantee you will make money off of a work right away (or at all, of course). What if it goes nowhere for 15 years and then becomes really popular?

I work with computers too much. I thought you meant IP Addresses and my first thought was, "....but then the Internet wouldn't work right?"

Rwanda doesn't work right. The infrastructure's fucked!

That was my first thought, too, and I was so confused.

I'm starting to feel like we should just give Disney a perpetual copyright on Mickey Mouse, and then return the rest of our copyright laws to normal

Yep. Maybe each corporation can be allowed perpetual* copyright on only one of their creations. Every time they buy another company out, they have to decide which perpetual copyright to jettison. It might stop companies like Disney from becoming one stop monopoly shops.

*or for the life of the company
