That's really sad, and I can understand why it'd make you angry. I'd be angry, too - it feels like it's your mother's way of continuing her denial about her alcoholism. She's rewritten history to make the incident that was 100% her own fault to something she couldn't help, all so it's not so serious. And by telling everyone the story - especially you, who knows better - she's trying to get everyone in on the lie. She's basically recruiting enablers to help her maintain the illusion that she's not an alcoholic.
