And super nice too! I worked on one of his shows several years ago, and he was always nice and personable to us below-the-liners.

It didn't seem sudden to me.

I mean, he was having issues with PTSD for kind of a while there at the beginning, and I would guess he would not have considered himself ready. Later, he was upset about Christina's abortion and it's been a pretty consistent part of his character - wanting to adopt that one kid, wanting to have kids with Amelia, wanting to foster kids, actually fostering Leo, and now, Teddy being pregnant.
