"The Freshman Fifteen" was a thing before Buzzfeed, too. It happens for the reasons people have mentioned. Having unlimited dining hall privileges, easy access to junk food, and a busy schedule can be a tricky combination. It's also possible you are less active now if you were involved in athletics in high school but not anymore, or you used to have to do more walking, or had a job where you were on your feet more, etc.

If you can take phys-ed classes at your school (especially if they're free/cheap) that can help. Aerobics, spinning, martial arts, yoga, whatever.
