I felt like Rossi's reaction came from his past experiences - it's not just about his skepticism, it's because he knows that charlatans can waste valuable resources and derail investigations. He also knows that fake mediums prey upon vulnerable families in their time of grief and they can end up bankrupt as well as heartbroken. To me, that more than excuses any brusqueness in his manner, especially when NOBODY ELSE was trying to dissuade the mother from putting her faith in a psychic.
