Really? Seriously? First of all, he's way too skinny

To be fair, casting a portly enough guy would make filming all the action scenes a challenge. Sean Astin said he thought that his weight loss/weight gain from various roles permanently fucked up his metabolism.

Even if that's the case - and I'm really skeptical of the idea that you just can't have fat dudes in action scenes - it's still a flaw in his portrayal of the character, IMO.

But, of course, OP's entitled to their opinion. I like Martin Freeman a lot as an actor, I just don't think he was right for Bilbo.

I'm not saying you can't aesthetically, just that it's more challenging because you need an actor who's a certain level of physically fit to train, do some of the stunts and working on LOTR was physically grueling so I imagine The Hobbit was, too. After that much work, an actor would either have to wear a fat suit to maintain continuity or risk looking skinnier in some scenes than others.

Sammo Hung read this post and you made him really sad

Really? That is a deciding factor for you? His mannerisms and personality as Bilbo were spot on. Being skinny doesn't bother me since in every other way he fit the role perfectly.

Different strokes for different folks

SA

I actually agree with that. I was just mirroring how they phrased their comment.
