Sort of good news is that AO3 has been working to archive those old fandom places so they don't disappear forever.

I really appreciate this about AO3.

I know with X-Files, for instance, the amount of oldfic they have is just absurd.

Problem is, if AO3 goes belly up all those fics from old fic archives will also be lost...

I can’t see AO3 going down for good without warning, though, since there’s so many people involved, and downloading individual fics is really easy. It’s not like when the single person running a fic archive stops paying hosting fees or something.
