Imaginary Boyfriends (or girlfriends)

What fictional characters come closest to your ideal romantic partner?

Probably Doumeki. I am totally a Watanuki so I'd need someone chill to balance me out.

At least personality-wise, Joan Holloway.

Zoe from Firefly

Nice.

Fitzwilliam Darcy (specifically the Matthew MacFadyen version)
Gilbert Blythe (specifically the Anne With An E version, and only if I were 15 again)
Max Evans (from Roswell)
Jim Halpert
Chuck Bartowski (from Chuck)

Basically, I like the "good boys" who are kind, a bit introverted, emotionally cautious, principled, and intelligent. Maybe a little bit intense. And extremely devoted to the women they love.

Thor? Or Not looks-wise (though he is nice, I'd never get a guy like that in real life). But personality-wise. Just, his joy in life. I need that in a partner. I'm trying to think of a female version of that. Maybe Rapunzel?

Like, I'm really into villains. That's my top category. But not for real life, certainly. What I want is someone I can talk with and someone who has this sense of joy about life that is infectious. That's an instant turn-on for me.

Megamind? I mean, he’s a joyous villain...

You know, I've never actually seen that movie. Maybe I should check it out.

AYRT—it’s really cute, one of my favorite “home sick with the flu/ugh I have cramps and moving hurts/random depression day” movies, up there with Galaxy Quest and Galavant.

Huh, I’m honestly coming up blank here, and I’m the OP of that “the Phantom of the Opera is one of my fictional crushes” secret from a bit ago. There’s a difference between fictional crushes and ideal romantic partners—I tend to get crushes on exuberant, flamboyant, deformed/monstrous villains, but that would be terrifying and maybe exhausting irl.

I guess someone who doesn’t mind that I’m a slob, actually likes housecleaning, and wouldn’t mind tramping around local zoos/parks/woods with me while I catch frogs and ID native plants, and is fine with my primary means of expressing affection being home cooked food and random gifts I think they’ll like. Maybe film Abe Sapien? I like classical music and he seems laid back but also is used to dealing with unstable weirdos aka most of his friends/coworkers, and apparently he likes blondes. And I live close to the ocean.

Buffy. The reasons Riley couldn't be with her were the reasons I thought we'd be a good couple. She has her own stuff going on and she doesn't need anyone. I don't like dependency to be part of my relationships.

Oh man, thank you. I had TWO guys break up with me and a paraphrase of their reasons were 'you're not needy enough' because I didn't NEED to talk to them on the phone every day, or text for hours every day. I was like, "Okay, go find someone clingy then?"

Oh god. The texting. My first boyfriend in high school was one of those. It was multiple times an hour and it just caused me stress and made me resent him for needing that much constant attention. I definitely need someone who is fine on their own like I am. If you have a meltdown because I leave you alone for a day you don't need a girlfriend, you need a therapist.

I mean, more power to couples who both love clinging and are happy that way. Stick with your own level of cling and everyone is happy.

I'm glad I'm older and I know what makes me and other people miserable now. Lessons have been learned.

Aha all my fictional crushes are 2D. Thinking about it apparently I'm the type who likes actually good guys (Not Nice Guy®) who are willing to put others before themselves and are dutiful, etc. Not necesarily a perfect boyfriend but just a kind person.

The Man in the Yellow Hat (PBS kids show version). Dude has a house in the country, an apartment in the city, and travels a lot. He plays in a band, leads a scout troop, values science, and has the patience of a saint.
