So... I'm just gonna assume that the very vague point you listed supports everything I feel and think about this series, and say- Yes, yes indeed.

Atem gets the full protagonist treatment, no doubt about it, and he is absolutely the villain every step of the way (mostly). Be it straight up murdering a guy (probably), putting Seto in a catatonic state, possessing a small child... (and all before the card games even begin//) He's like Light in more than a few ways, now that I think about it;;
The only difference is that Atem was once anointed as a god, while Light just thought himself to be...

In other words- YUUUUU-GIIIIIII-OHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
