I like this secret and it's a great idea.. definitely rides you over in a way..

For me I think I'm just constitutionally incapable of being a completist about anything at this point. I respect your thinking though! It makes sense even if it's slightly morbid.

This is the cutest thing I've ever read!

(Anonymous) 2019-02-03 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds neat, OP! I don’t think I could do it because I want to read something as soon as it comes out, but the idea of having a “hidden treasure” waiting for you is really cool.

I've done this with WIP fics - always staying one chapter behind until it's done, so I have an unread chapter "in case of emergency."

I like endings. I often won't even start a book series until I know the ending has already been written. Been burned a few times in terms of lessening quality (Rowling and Martin mostly) and now I usually wait.

I've done this with two of my favorite authors, both of whom are dead. I actually have a few books from each that I haven't read yet.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I almost always do this too, OP. Whether I plan to or not. It's a coping mechanism to the devastating feeling of having No More.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
You have great self control, OP.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'd never have the will power to do this!

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
I certainly don't have the self-control to do this (I devour new series whole and then go on fic binges to tide me over to the next installment) but it seems like a good idea... and I love the way you've phrased it.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-04 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
This is genius!

This is me, 1000%;;
The more I adore something the less likely I am to finish it, be it a book, a game, a fic, a series, or just about anything at all... The thought that there's more to come is just better than the fact something is finished for good, imo;;
