I guess you only watched the first half of the first Thor movie?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, he was smug as shit in Ragnarok... But he was funny and he got beat up in response to his smugness, so it was charming imo.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ragnarok read more as a "smiling so I don't cry" sort of smug, though.

He's not an award worthy actor, IMO. He has a very wooden delivery and his face isn't very expressive. I don't mind him doing comedy and I think Thor being an idiot is the best kind of role for him. I think he should keep going for less serious roles.

Did you watch any movies with him as Thor?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Because Thor may not be my favorite and I don't go for the Thor movies myself(though I have watched a fair amount of the first and bits of the second because my nephew does) but that description is wrong just from the Avengers movies, much less the Thor movies.

What movie is this?

I think it's from In the Heart of the Sea, where he plays a crewman on a 19th-century whaling ship? Came out in 2015, directed by Ron Howard.

Huh. I had not heard of that. Thanks!

19th century sea story you say...this is relevant to my interests

Uh, so, you should know it is based on a true story and contains some...stuff. Don't go into it thinking you are just getting your run-of-the-mill historical or ship movie.

:D

Based on Nathaniel Philbrick's book of the same name, about a real disaster involving a whaling ship named Essex, said disaster later becoming the basis for Melville's Moby-Dick.

Personally I didn't think the movie was quite as good as Master and Commander, but it's worth a watch. Age of Sail, represent.

DA--Personally I want an HBO series of the O'Brian novels with Hemsworth as Jack Aubrey. And Daniel Bruhl as Stephen Maturin, if he can do the accent.

Oh, nonny! NICE. :DDD

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my God YESSSS

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hemsworth *would* make an excellent Aubrey, now that you mention it.

But my personal fave for Maturin is Jonny Lee Miller. He's got a good handle on the stick-insect, flaily, approaches humanity from an odd angle shtick

AYRT

Ooh, yeah, JLM is a great idea!

I am cosigning this enthusiastically.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, I watched this movie for Cillian, but how did I totally not notice Hemsworth was in it?!

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand judging an actor based on a character, but OK. Just coming into say he's got brilliant comedic timing, so give some of those roles a chance.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I thought he was pretty funny in the remake of Ghostbusters.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
He was freakin' hilarious in that movie XD

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a Marvel fan at all but the Thor character is so awesome, lol. He's my reason for putting up with the films, including Avengers.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-06 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I really liked the first Thor movie but was disappointed in everything afterward up to Ragnarok. I felt like Hemsworth's comic talent and depth were being wasted. I really enjoyed Ragnarok. And *Rush*, with Hemsworth as James Hunt, is an all time fave. I consider him the best Chris.
