I think, in general, Bachelor!AU fics work better with same-sex pairings, because there's just a lot more intrinsic dramatic irony that way

I completely agree with this. I'm pretty sure I would find a het Bachelor AU to be unutterably dull (and I'm not even someone who hates het in general).

But in my scenario, the pairing was slash either way. I just don't find "Bachelor falls for lone male contestant" enough of a curve-ball for my liking, because at the end of the day, "Bachelor falls for contestant" is boring to me. I want "Bachelor is supposed to fall for a contestant, but instead falls for (male) producer; producer falls for Bachelor, thus fucking everything up beyond all recognition."

For example, that one really good Swan Queen Bachelor!AU fic where Emma's a contestant and Regina's a producer.

Oh damn. So my longed for fic scenario HAS been written. That's cool. If only I were into femslash. *sigh*

Oh, I gotcha!

I also think contestant-on-contestant could be very, very good. I'd like to see someone give that a whirl.

Oh my god, why didn't I think of that!? You're right, that could be really good!

I know I've seen this exact scenario for both Sterek & Stormpilot. Hopefully some good fic for your OTP will turn up soon!
