Any particular reason why? I watch plenty of series where I hate main characters, but none of them ever made me want to stop liking the fandom.

No clue, wish I did. Maybe because everyone (aka Allen, Rabi, Komui, etc.) loves her so much, but nobody seems to dislike her. She doesn't have any discernible flaws.

Query: What would you say Allen's flaws are?

Barging into things without thinking, especially when he's lost his temper. His saviour complex, which can be really annoying sometimes when he takes it too far. His habit of secret-keeping, which only ends up hurting himself and others IMO. Having no real qualms with cheating or getting revenge on somone. I could probably go on, but I don't have many references handy.

Hmm. How about how psychologically fragile she is?

If she had any glaring flaws then she would probably be disliked even more. Mm. In my experience most fandoms tend towards indifference/dislike of the girls in any series where (1)the primary fandom is under the age of 20, and (2)yaoi or the oppurtunity for yaoi is prevalent.

I'm not saying people aren't entitled to dislike her, but I would certainly say that anyone who 'hates' or 'dislikes' or 'doesn't care about' Rinali has many friends in this fandom.

Sorry, that just doesn't cut it for me. It seems like more of a Sueish flaw, if anything.

But...I love characters with flaws! I mean, a good many of my favourite characters are girls with realistic flaws, and I was hoping Rinali would prove me wrong. 170 chapters later, and I'm still waiting for something to come up. And yaoi isn't my thing, really.

Hmm...you may have a point there. I'm not as involved with the fandom, so I can't say. Sorry if I sounded rude while writing this, conveying tone through words is harder than it looks. ^^'

mm. See, I think that Rinali is equally flawed as every other character in the series. It's not a whole *lot* of flaws, but each character has one 'major' flaw that is central to whatever shortcomings they might have.

The poster below me is pretty much hitting the nail on the head for me. Save the whole 'ruining the fandom' thing. Although your dislike of Rinali shouldn't ruin your fandom experience since you can pretty much go anywhere and be virtually Rinali-free.

153. Er, she does have a major, major flaw. She's kind of fighting in a war, but her entire 'world' consists of only her friends and family. And, as shown again and again, it becomes harder for her to function when she loses part of her 'world.'

And honestly, she's on par with Allen and Ravi. Allen's big thing is that he has an odd relationship with Akuma and has trouble killing humans, and Ravi's is that he has trouble juggling his identity as an exorcist with his identity as a Bookman. Lenalee's really no different than Allen or Ravi, to be honest, including flaws and everything.

She's just a damn character like anyone else. Nothing more. I don't understand why she's 'ruining' a good series for you anymore than the other major players. And if she is literally hurting your enjoyment of D.Gray-man that much, it's pretty easy to stop reading/watching.

That's true, very true. I'd forgotten that. Problem is, I'd like to see some internal flaws as well...but I'm just being nitpicky there.

Heh, you're right. Not everything has to be srs bsnss, I just seem to take it that way sometimes. ^^'

Heh, it's fine. I'm sorry if I came off a little harsh, anyway, I usually say/type things without thinking. I'm sure you don't have a personal vendetta against Lenalee, but there are so many fans who do, and it's just...well, it makes me wonder. She really isn't all that different from Allen or Ravi or Kanda.

It just seems like when she does something good, she's too good of a character, and when she does something weak/bad, she's not good enough. It's worrisome that some people have such different and conflicting standards for Lenalee and not for other characters, you know? Sexism at its finest in fandom, I guess.

Bingo. How unfortunate that people have to nitpick at everything if it involves a female character. If she doesn't fight, she's weak. If she complains about something, she's a bitch. If she likes the main character, she's obsessed. If she doesn't do anything annoying/is loved by the other characters..she's too perfect therefore deserves to be hated. Jeeesus Christ. @__@
