First: Yay for two RH secrets in one post!

And second: I totally agree with 142. And I say this as someone who still quite likes Guy... or... no - 'like' is not the right word. I find him interesting and I think he's probably one of the only truly complex characters that the show has created. I write a lot of fanfiction and I appreciate that Guy can be written a nuber of ways and there's plenty there to explore (more so than with most of the other characters, anyway, even if what's there to explore isn't very pleasant) .... but I think the fangirls who keep making excuses for the man are fucking crazy. I was about ready to consider him an alright character towards the end of series two - given that (largely because of Marian's prodding) he seemed to be growing a back bone - and then the finale happened and he became completely irrideemable.

THE MAN MURDERED THE WOMAN HE WAS IN LOVE WITH. There is no coming back from that. Guy and Marian's relationship was COMPLETELY unhealthy and VERY abusive. Sure, I like writing them because... well, I'm weird like that - but there's no way in hell I can write them being all cute and lovey dovey and just... ugh. No. Marian wanted to save him but wanted to save herself, Robin her father more and Guy ended up MURDERING HER (and essentially intending to rape her before that).

This all boils down to how fucked up the finale was, anyway. Given how the writers seemed to be developing Guy to at least being more on Marian's side than the Sheriff's, and how they seemed to be suggesting that he was growing some morals of his own, him finally snaping and killing her has NEVER made sense to me. Which just points to basic flaws in how ALL of the character development in the show went. But the basic point stands:

Guy of Gisborne is no longer a villain who can be redeemed and the fangirls who still attempt to call him anything else (let ALONE blame MARIAN for his MURDERING HER) need to grow up. I worry for those fangirls and what they will be like in their OWN relationships.

TL/DR

TL/DR:

I like Guy, I ship Guy/Marian and read fic about them (though only by a few specific writers who I know get them right) but I think the fangirls who call the character and his relationship with Marian anything but abusive are, at best, delusional.

*shrugs* I don't mind being delusional.

Look, I get sypathising with the character and getting drawn in by the tragic doomed-ness quality of the 'ship - but are you seriously telling me that Guy saying he planned to 'take her by force' during the finale was anything but fucked up? I like living in a fantasy canon where the series two finale never happened and Guy actually does redeem himself and his relationship with Marian gets healthier and I like reading AU fanfic where that happens... but in terms of what ACTUALLY happened on the show; however much any of us dislikes it, the writers turned Guy into an abuser. It seems pretty clear to me.

To be honest, I don't think the writers knew what the hell they were doing in the finale anyway, imo. And to be honest, I'm not in a position to go into the whole debate in depth, even if I wanted to.

Well, word to that point. Which is why I like living in the fantasy canon anyway. I just dislike the fangirls who go around claiming, with reguards to the finale, that it was Marian's fault she was murdered because poor Guy was just so misunderstood and alone.
