That's just ridiculous. I adore Guy with every fiber of my being, but I don't make excuses for him. He's nuts, and I wouldn't have him any other way. He wants to be good, but fails miserably. That's why I adore him. If he ever succeeded at being good, he'd be as boring as that douche Robin Hood.

My interest in Guy/Marian was purely for the sexual tension. I loved that Guy elicited this very adult feeling of desire in her, which was dangerous, because she didn't exactly know what it was or why she was having those feelings for someone who was so morally repulsive to her. Whereas with Robin, it was safe, and what she had with him was a child's view of love, it was what she had known her whole life. She didn't have the animal lust feelings with Robin that she had with Guy. Marian definitely didn't love Guy, she definitely didn't want to marry him, she definitely didn't approve of his ways, but she wanted him for reasons that she couldn't fathom. Guy was a man to her, Robin just a boy. Guy was mysterious, Robin was predictable. Guy represented a certain danger, and Marian had always been fascinated by danger, walking a fine line between doing what she wanted and doing what was safe. For Guy, Marian represented purity, and in his own twisted mind, he was in love with her, and he tried to be romantic with her in the way that Robin would, but again, he fails so miserably at being that kind of guy, so he goes back to what he knows, which is force and fear. Yeah, Marian manipulated him like crazy, but his insecurity and his impatience causes his inability to stay on the virtuous path, and that is fully his fault. The ship was always doomed and twisted, but that was the draw. It was the beautifully complex alternative to the boring mediocrity of Robin/Marian. But I would never, ever call Marian/Guy a love match. Ever. And I ship them (until the finale). Of course, I'm pretty sure that I'm convinced that Robin is his real passion.

This comment made my jaw drop. Thank you for explaining the character dynamics so clearly and succinctly. I'm going to save this comment for future reference because this is exactly what fascinated me about certain aspects of the show but had trouble putting into words.
