Is your hair thick and fine or thin and fine? It might be helpful to find a stylist who specializes in curly hair, or requesting it be cut dry rather than wet. The main problem is that many (white/caucasian) stylists don't know how to cut textured hair. They want to treat it the same way straight hair is treated, and you can't really do that because it's a different hair type that requires different treatment (like cutting it dry).
If it's causing this much anxiety, I highly recommend finding a stylist who specializes in textured hair. Google "hair stylists specializing in curly hair" for your area and see what comes up. Ouidad and DevaCurl are two different curl/texture systems that are used in many salons, they might be a useful search for you as well.
I feel you on this tho. I'm a stylist who went to school just so I could learn how to take care of my own hair! Good luck, bb.
