I don't think it's getting butthurt that someone else is happy, more like getting sick of constantly seeing something you don't care for. Sometimes it's easy to avoid but if it's a popular character/ship within one fandom then it can get frustrating to sift through.

If you haven't experienced it, then it's hard to explain. Imagine trying to talk about one thing but everyone only wants to talk about something else. You can tolerate it in small doses, but after a point it feels like you're screaming into the void.

Some times you just want one fucking day where the world cares about what you want, you know?

it's hard to be happy for other people when you can never be happy for yourself

Find another hobby.

If you insist on standing in lava, don't complain about getting burned.

Don't spread the lava everywhere and expect everyone to enjoy it for your sake.

No, like... literally, get out of the lava. If a fandom is leaving you frustrated and sad and you can't find any happiness in it, find a new fandom and hopefully you'll have better luck. It sucks, but that's genuinely the only answer, because people are having fun with their stuff. I've done the "why can't people care about what I care about" thing in a couple of fandoms, and in retrospect I am just so embarrassed with myself because I was being a black hole of negativity around people just... enjoying something. They weren't doing anything wrong! I was bringing it 100% on myself. The only answer was to try something else. I'm so much happier doing things this way now.

There's some outlets that I read for other stuff that insist on running an Avengers story every 48 hours. And half of them are not even news, they're just picking apart some half-baked theory that trended on twitter for an hour. Or Star Wars. No I don't need my RSS feeds packed with a story a day about the rumored movie title and a second story about how there's no movie title yet.

I have experienced it (I ship a minor pairing in a fandom overrun by a juggernaut pairing) and I still don't get it. Why should I be mad about other people having fun and enjoying what they like? Yeah, I would love some more fic for my pairing, but that doesn't mean I need to shit all over everyone else's fun in the process. I wouldn't want them to be Bitter Bettys if it were the other way around and I liked the popular pairing, so why would I do that to them?

This is a great summary of my life in fandom. I’m salty as the Dead Sea that everyone’s loving stuff I have no interest in and having so much fun chatting and squeeing together. Trying to sell the stuff I like to other people is an uphill battle and I’m like, you know what? I’m done. I’m tired. I’m gonna stay in my corner from now on and do my damned best to have a fucking great time by myself.

Mm, yeah... I've got one fandom where my NoTP is most people's OTP, to the degree that you can go on the discord's channel SPECIFIC to A/B, and A/C will come up in conversation, sometimes as part of an OT3 situation but sometimes just as a separate thing.

I don't want to harsh anyone's squee, or be a bad sport, but it wears on me by degrees to have no corner of the fandom without it.

Pretty much this. If you've never encountered an evangelical fandom, I envy you. It's not that they enjoy whatever- there are a lot of things I don't like that other people do, and vice versa- It's that they're convinced if they green-eggs-and-ham you long enough you too will love it. And if you don't, you just need to consume it until you do. Some fandoms actually find doing this entertaining, and go out of their way to troll non-fans.

Teal deer, people don't hate evangelicals because they believe, they hate them because they keep interrupting dinner.
