One of my favorite authors does this and it drives me nuts. I don't pre-order any of her books anymore, I just wait for the reviews to tell me if this particular work actually has an ending. (I'm kind of mystified that her bad habit of rarely ending things doesn't hurt her in the reviews. Usually people get angry at unannounced serials, but not with this writer.)
