Should be normal. The capitalistic, gender-essentialist hellhole I escaped from were full of unhappy marriages made up of people who resented their partners and saw them as status symbols and obstacles to overcome in pursuit of their own happiness.

I vowed that would never happen to me, I’d rather be alone than so lonely. So I do consider myself lucky to have someone I share my life with when I still look around and hear/see people who just don’t realize they’re so unhappy because they’ve never understood love isn’t some idyllic person coming along to fulfill your dreams and grant you self worth. Love is my elderly neighbor remembering to turn his wife’s favorite shows on for her, even though he hates them and complains bitterly to me about the plots and characters.
