Whoah, wait.. Are you talking about pairings, or how the show wasn't dark enough? Your first post suggests the latter, but now you're talking about pairings, which you didn't mention in your previous post.

They seem to be connected. A lot of the complaints I saw were that it was too much of a western "happily ever after" ending that gave the hero everything he ever wanted but didn't make him work for it (this, incidentally, is very far from my own opinion, just repeating what I've seen) and that it should have dealt more with loss and disappointment. And most of the criticism I saw was from fans of the Zuko/Katara pairing.
