If the writing is hot enough, the reader can "get there" without the author needing to describe much of the sex, if any at all.

And for people with a fetish, there are often two types of kink reader/viewer

1) "the kink is the appetizer" they just want a bit of it to get them going but they want the majority of the story/video to be the explicitly shown sex. The kink is the gateway to the sex.

2 "the kink is the entree, the sex is dessert" they want most of it to strongly feature the kink, they can totally enjoy a work where the sex only starts happening at the very end.

Yup. And I have read a few kink/fetish stories where the writing was *excellent* and no actual sex (of the penetrative kind) was involved or even needed.

That's few and far between, though, at least in the majority of the stuff i've read.

(And too many kink memes seem to be the number 1, as you described, and there just isn't enough of the kink to be interesting.)

Great observation. I think there's also a bit of difference between kinky sex and kink qua kink. The latter is going to be much more concerned with the headspace of the relationship and may or may not have a sexy "happy ending" (orgasm).
