Person A was basically talking about how awesome Person B is and says they've loved them for years (no "in a platonic way" or further clarification or anything, just that exact sentence), B doesn't really react and continues talking about what they were talking about before A said that, then B has to leave and they go their separate ways. A seems maybe slightly upset that B brushed them off, but maybe that's just a misinterpretation of their reaction. B is flustered and isn't sure what to think because they've had feelings for A for a long time but didn't think there was any way that A felt the same way but now they're starting to think that maybe they do? But they're not 100% sure they're interpreting it right and don't want to assume anything.

(Real people btw, not a fictional situation.)

A should probably have had the courage to say something explicit long before this point, which would've helped to avoid confusion and possible misinterpretation. And B should've probably had the courage to question it directly in the moment.

This is a problem that could've been solved by two people (who clearly care for one another) communicating openly and honestly.

Was a third party present? If so, said third party should ask A what they meant.
