I'd say that agreeing with the overall message doesn't make a difference between preachy vs. nuanced, but does make the difference between preachy and "heavy-handed."

Something can be a little too on the nose with its message without necessarily being preachy about it.

For example, girl power episodes can be preachy, or they can just be heavy handed, but they're never nuanced.
