[Stargate Atlantis]

Yeah. I really liked the bittersweet "what might have been" scene where he was dying under the collapsed building and he dreamed about the two of them having a date. He's such a secret romantic, and Teyla is one of his best friends...I love the idea of John being in love with Teyla but just letting it sit there in his heart.

Same same. Also because those two probably had the least romantic chemistry of all the characters to me.

Did you ever see the Quarantine episode?

Is that the one with the nano things that give you screamy hallucinations and then your brain explodes? I loved how that one showed John doing significant damage to his relationships with Weir and Teyla both, and the show not letting him off the hook for the rammerpercussions that followed.

Gosh I love Stargate Atlantis. What a show.

Agreed, and I’m not even sure why. I can ship both of them with lots of people - just not each other.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-12 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! I was thrilled they dropped the idea of their having a relationship. I would have preferred that they didn't even make him all piney for her anyway. Good friendship between male/females that doesn't have some 'but secretly they lurve each other' undertones is harder to find than I think it should be.

Agreed. Although, a lot of times I do end up shipping the platonic male/female friends. But I never did with these two. They just never struck me as a pair that would work as a couple.

I always thought the iratus bug/retrovirus-induced kiss derailed any potential romance, and honestly I liked it that way - like, it was sad, but it made sense in the story.

Well this takes me back.......

I think they would have ended up there if the show hadn’t gotten cancelled, so....thank goodness for small mercies I guess. I could never really buy that they had any romantic interest in each other so the writers’ sporadic attempts at trying to say yes there was always seemed so incredibly random. John’s candlelit dinner fever dream in particular was a serious WTF moment for me. Though I wasn’t thrilled to have the show end with Atlantis on Earth, I was always kind of relieved that it meant that they never did end up going there after all with those two.

I don't like the pairing at all (the chemistry just feels...Not romantic to me), so I agree with this sentiment 100%

While I never shipped them either the pregnancy ruined Teyla for me, all about her magical fetus and the only badassery after birth was when she killed someone threatening her terribly dangerous child.

they had no romantic chemistry at all - the scenes were nothing but awkawrd and weird - but their friend chemistry was pretty cool

nice to see a male-female friendship that never gave a serious push for romance

I hated this ship so much, and I'm so glad it didn't happen on the show. I'm still bitter about what they did to Elizabeth, though. She's the only one I ever shipped with John.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I was pretty bitter about what they did to Elizabeth too.

While I'm kind of glad they didn't do this ship (being a die hard McShepper), I always did think they worked well together and had a wonderful friendship. I could kind of see them as perhaps a platonic pairing?

Gotta put in a plug for the good ol'Colonel… Joe Flanigan showed up on General Hospital as a therapist this past week. Older but perhaps wiser I guess, he's still reading about the Russian Revolution!

Thanks for making my comment a secret, anon! :) Now I'm all smiley on my way to work.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
I ship it*, but I have zero faith that the show would have handled it well, so I'm also glad it never became canon.

*Along with a ton of other pairings including John/Ronon, John/Lorne, Rodney/Ronon, Rodney/Zelenka, Ronon/Zelenka, and Bates/anyone.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-13 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't ship it at all but agree completely. The writers would have made it awful I think.
