"it's so weird -"

no it makes perfect sense that your fixation on fire goes from fear to fascination when you know it's safely fiction. it doesn't happen to everybody but it happens to a lot of things.

this!

Agreed. This is true for so many things.

This!

I have a fear of heights and flying, but I like seeing airships and flying motifs in fiction a lot.

yep! this is how it is with me and breath play, I have no problems reading it in fic but in real life I panic if my scarf feels too tight

I'm super-into anything with a fire aesthetic too, but I also like fire irl, so for me it's simply matching up something I like irl to ficiton.

But sometimes we like things in fiction that we don't like, are afraid of, or even abhor irl. Brains are weird like that.

I'm both a little fascinated and wary of it in real life.

In real life, if it's small or controlled, I'm generally fine with it and even like it, but if it gets big, smoky, burns things that shouldn't be burnt (plastic, fabric, hair, etc.), or in any way out of control, I start to get panicky. We had a house fire when I was young and the region I live in now has wildfire risks. But in fiction, especially as magic, it's awesome.

More on your level with fire, I love action movies, but I do not want to be anywhere near a real fight or car chase. (Though, if the violence gets too realistic or gory, I can't even tolerate it in visual media and there's only so far I can go with it in written media.)

This is me with Lightning and electricity. I'm not terrified of it (it'd be hard to do my job if I was), but I'd really rather not have anything to do with it.

But in fiction, fuck yes. I am ALWAYS into lightning magic in anything where that's an option. I'm Lightning 4 Lyfe on FR. Thor is my favorite Avenger. Give me all the lightning things.

Big same, OP. I love the fire aesthetic too, along with the varied symbolism. I'd say it's inspired a lot of my writing and art.

Fire is an excellent aesthetic.
