I didn't realize this was a thing?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-15 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's not. Not sure why OP is trying to pretend that 1) people who don't watch football are an "anti fandom" and 2) that they're even close to being as vocal about it as football fans.

The only thing less interesting than the football fandom, is football itself...

I get that "LOL SPORTS-BALL" stuff has gotten pretty cliche and obnoxious at this point, so I guess I can sympathize.

But I really do hate football and most professional sports as industries, and I just don't get how people can watch the same basic sporting game over and over again and still be entertained.

I can appreciate some of the fun team patriotism and how it can bring people together, though. I am obviously not a football fan, but I moved away from my home state to go to a big city and it kind of makes me smile to see people wearing my home teams' stuff here. Weird sudden camaraderie. I guess for small towns that have nothing going for them in terms of future, it also means a lot to see one of their own make it big as a pro.

But it's not cool when people get too obsessed about it, or violent and crazy. It's why world cup stuff can go fuck itself.

I mean... it's not the same game every time.

It can get obnoxious, true, but only one side of that divide has a history of rioting, property destruction and thuggery, and it's not the 'lol sportsball' people.

I don't usually watch the Super Bowl but I just love the Grey Cup. Which is generally a much better game anyway.

God I hate the "sportsball" schtick. I have to deal with it so often from people in my industry, and there's just such a thick veil of snobbery about the attitude that it makes me roll my eyes. We get it, you're too special to like sports. Grow up.

Football anti-fandom are the ones that say shipping Brady and Gronk is pedophilia.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-16 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I can see how this gets annoying too. This goes for pretty much anything popular I think. Yes, you're not special for liking something that a bunch of other people like, but you're also not special for hating said popular thing either. I get it.
