And also, the fact that it seems like it happens so consistently? I think that's a lot of it. Mandatory Children, and Mandatory Children being framed as a totally intrinsic and necessary part of a truly happy ending, is pretty dang widespread in media.

YES, THIS. It’s not that it’s unbelievable or impossible that it happens, it’s that it happens EVERY TIME. Usually without any accompanying character development, as per the first commenter, and often treated as the only valid - or at least best by far - happy ending, as per the second commenter. Babies Ever After isn’t everyone’s idea of happily ever after, and that’s okay, and it would be nice to see that in media sometime.

Yes. People who are child free and happy rarely show up in media at all.
