I don't disagree with this.

But I'd like to point out you also never ever ever see the reverse. Where someone thinks they wants kids then decides no, they don't, and are happy anyway.

I'm so glad someone said this. I grew up in a culture where it was expected of me that I would get married and have kids, and for the longest time, I thought that's what I wanted for myself. Figuring out that I didn't actually want kids was one of the most freeing things in my life. It would be amazing to see someone in fiction go through that kind of thing. But you're right - it never happens.

Sex and the City has a bad rep these days but it's actually pretty groundbreaking for its time. Carrie wanted to have kids but then decided she was fine without them. Samantha *never* wanted kids and never had them, too.
