The movie casting sucks but uses art featuring a Remus that resembles David Thewlis.

What's with Tonks sobbing over Remus's body? I want a pissed off Tonks fighting over his body not crying over it.

OP

Honestly, this was the biggest piece of fanart I could find in a quick google search. There were better ones, but they were too small and not suitable for a secret.

ugh, wank over this paring needs to just die already.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-16 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's not exactly 2006 anymore. The wank's already deader than Tonks and Remus.

Came to agree with OP that I didn't like the movie casting for Remus. Not my mental image of him at all, and I'm surrounded by fangirls who get wet at the thought of him. (Well, maybe not that gross, but since he does nothing for me, it feels like it.)

IDGI. Why Remus of all people? Sirius I can understand because that guy has his charms, but Remus is such a sad sack of a character. Am I supposed to like him just because he's one of the good guys and was a good teacher to Harry*?

*Except for that colossal fuckup by the end of the year where he forgot to take wolfsbane when he's supposed to be a responsible adult who can protect the schoolkids from his ~furry little problem~

Nerds too shy to project on super headstrong hermione like him

people dealing with chronic illness or closeted for lgbt issues often empathize with the secret werewolf and discrimination stuff. he's survived terrible things and been very lonely but he keeps trying to keep going and keep being kind, which is admirable to a lot of people. he's a pushover for affection, which a lot of people can empathize with, he's dealt with grief and poverty in a less picture-book-quaint way than the weaslys.

like you can write off all that stuff as being a "sad sack" but I have been...a sad person, at different points in my life. people like characters whose sufferings they understand. and remus is a goodish person who is also a really good liar, hiding both his lycanthropy and successfully spying, he was a marauder despite not at all seeming like the type as an adult, and he's capable of being a stone cold ruthless bitch when pushed far enough (very cheerfully planning to murder Peter before Harry intervenes) which makes for some interesting and less-saccharine character notes.

plus a loooot of the fandom was shaped in the 3-year summer between books 4 and 5 coming out, so for anyone who didn't want to ship school children or rly old people, Remus/Siris was actually one of the best potential ships for non-AU happiness, while still having a lot of problems to overcome/write about.

also people who already loved werewolves as a concept

Nothing to say but that this is a really interesting reply. I love Remus too, because, like you said, "he keeps trying to keep going and keep being kind." He doesn't use his past or his pain as an excuse to be an asshole. That makes him great in my book.

Exactly this, anon!

You perfectly summed up why I love Remus. Frankly, at this point in my life, I am also a sad sack. I don't think that means that I have to be alone and miserable and ugly and mean for the rest of my life. I like to think that the fact that I'm still getting out of bed in the morning means that I have some strength and life in me yet.

I feel for those folks that have never felt that *down* and *kicked* by the world and the slightly-unsympathetic part of me hopes they get to experience it..soon.

tbh, I am still low-key annoyed with the whole "romance" between Remus and Tonks and how forced and awful it was. So, by the point of them having a kid and dying...I just didn't care any more.

I'm with you, OP.

To me, Remus was too important a character to be killed off screen. Tonks was fun and interesting and all but I wouldn't have been all that upset if she was killed off screen. I was kind of hoping the movies would have given them a better send off. Expecting anything from the movies was a foolish hope, I know but they could have played up that drama.

I'm not has mad about it as I was at the time, but I still think it's bullshit.
